In a second was lane 10.Walter, Poung and Gary L, 8 pins behind.

Arde has dropped her handicap under the 100 mark in her third week.
Today was memorable for the loud bang coming from lane 8,for some unexplainable reason Shermans ball hit the gate...flew up and broke the flouro light above it took a while for the glass and powder to be removed. That gave us a moment to have a sip of beer.

Hoping for teams of 4 next week so we can all relax a bit between frames.

See you there.

and John B changed from 48 to 38. (bowling a 217/265 in one game) There were a few who's handicap went the opposite direction big time but no names mentioned.

BOWLING 16th JUNE

Stewart having a rest this week to watch Aussie Rugby instead. So Les back in the chair.

Acker and his girlfriend Arde came along for first time since last Dec.

1st round saw scores of 734 – 749 – 744 – 681 – 694 and 781 all below the handicap mark of 800. But then there was Rex, Dennis H, Jo and Dan on lane 13 with 868. Looked like the horse had bolted.

However in the next two games John B, Tim, & C.T. on lane 9 hit their straps with scores of 823 & 863 while Rex’s mob could only come up with 782 & 773. So in the end lane 9 beat lane 13 by 12 pins

High score was Tim with 241, well done.

Not many big handicap movers this week. Ben has snuck out from 48 to 56 and Surachot from 40 to 52 would be a good one to have in your team next game.

Back to Stewart next Wed.

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Bowling 9/6/2010

Firstly a new bowler from Oz, Peter G, informed the handicapper he hadn't bowled for over 10 years, his practice game was 120 so, he copped a generous 80 pin handicap, it wasn't needed...he bowled very well, no rust.167, 176 and 168 Scratch! He took the high score prize, well done mate.

The day was down to 3 teams, Lanes 8,10 and 11 were locked in a tight battle,
no-one could predict if a team of three or four would win, so the prizemoney was undecided.

Out of the blue, came lane 7 and stole the cookie jar.Congratulations Gary L, John B, Ning and John V. (their third game was a whopping 908).Second place prize went to Peter G, Corky and JJ. Lane 10 needed a spare on their last frame to get second place but the pressure of the crowd proved too much. All in all a very enjoyable afternoons exercise.

See your happy faces again next week.

Second place – Gary L, Rene, Shiela and J.J. Score 2503.

High score was Les 277. But not enough players for a prize (that would be right). He has an appointment with the handicapper this week to explain his game scores of 172 – 277 – 165.

After some turmoil during the draw and the ‘Angry Ant’ settled down, we finally got off to a late start with 7 teams of 3. The seven teams of three worked out pretty well in the end. Good performances today from H (again), Michael, Jacob and Dennis, who all bowled better than handicap in all games.

See you next Wed.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Bowling 21st April

24 players this week made the draw real easy.

Only one team beat their handicap and were easy winners with 2563 points – won by 206 pins – That was Pung, H, Kitti and Denis. Well done team. H had a blinder on his first appearance this trip back with 255, 248 & 216 (719) and somehow that has only cost him 8 off his handicap. (Never mind, we’ll get him next time)

H’s first game score of 255 also looked like getting him the high score prize until last game when Rene somehow managed a 263. This was after Rene complained about H’s handicap all day, and he ended up with his Lady getting the money and him 100 B for high score. What can we do ?

Let’s hope the A/C and machinery are better on the 28th,

Friday, April 9, 2010

BOWLING 7TH APRIL

Les didn’t make it to bowling Wed after his holiday in Philippines, still recovering, but is back on the books.

Numbers are bit down at present with only 22 players this week, but that’s okay.

Couple of good performances this week – Michael gross 501 (net 681) and John V gross 510 (net 663).

R.J., Dennis H, and Sherman bowled better than their handicaps in all three frames – well done. Sherman has been at it for one year now and his handicap has gone from initially 123 down to 65 next week – so that is what can be done. What will he be after another year ?

Winners easily by 83 pins were John V, Steve J, Dennis H and Pung with team net score 2538. Only the one prize this week.

NO OGANISED BOWLING NEXT WEEK DUE TO SONGKHRAN FESTIVAL.

WED 3RD Mar’10

Welcome to some more newcomers Bob & Suvanna plus Jimmy M. Hope we will see more of you.

Also back after enjoying the delights of Phuket for two months, were Ben and Corky. Good to have them back with us.

Was some good competition early today with Mike, Gary, Phil and Phyllis going great guns trying to outdo Jo, CT, Les and Ben. Jo’s team were still 3 points in front after game 2.

But, Jo’s team floundered in game 3 and then out of the blue with a mighty Game 3 score of 918 came the crew of RJ, Jamie, Ning and Dao to beat Mike’s team by 25 pins and win the day.

Ning was ready to pocket the high game score prize today of 60 baht, but the ‘Mighty Mike Breeze’ who is in rare form at present came up with a 271 in the last frame. (214 gross)

So RJ’s team got the 800 baht and Mike’s team 400.

30 players today.

Bowling 24th Feb

Two new players this week, Ian and Jerry. Also Bacca back in CNX on holiday after he was last here Oct’08.

Best bowlers today without handicap were Bacca 520 and John B 522. John B would also have won the handicapped high score but not sufficient money today. Bacca sees his handicap drop to 31 next outing. Makes it tough

Winners were the one team of 3. Somsee, Sherman and Phyllis on 2484. We don’t get many ladies any more, but they certainly seem to get in the money.

2nd place to Brock, Phil W, Les and Michael with 2446.

Bowling 10th Feb 2010

Only 25 here today. Less work for the handicapper.

We say farewell to Scott today who leaves Chiang Mai for the UK on Monday. He will be missed by his many friends who will all hope to meet up with him again somewhere.

Team of 3, Ning, Kevin and Phyllis took out 1st place today with score 2475, just 5 pins ahead of Rene, Denis, John B and Gerry on 2470. Michael, CT, Rex and Stewart were a further 5 pins back on 2465. So only 10 pins between the first three places.

Only 3 ladies here today and I notice 2 of them in 1st place.

One winner left early, so we have extra TB 100 to start off the kitty next week.

Bye until then

Bowling 27th Jan '10

Right number of people to have 7 teams of 4 this week.

Early out of the blocks with 1st game score of 832 was team of Rene, Mike, Pat and Kevin. Although they faulted in the 3rd game, their score of 2431 was easily good enough to beat Jacob, Denis, Pung and Richard by 55 pins.

John X won highest score again with 1st game 271. His handicap has now crashed to 29, meaning he has now taken over as our lowest handicap.

Walter, Mike and Jacob were the only players to beat their handicap in all games this week and the winners the only side to beat the 2400 mark.

See you next week - Les

27th Jan 2010

Five teams of 4 and three of 3 this week. Just an odd number.

Some pretty good competition with five teams beating the 2400 mark.

John X had a really good day and with Gary L and Steve J (newcomer) in support, they won the money (TB600) with good score of 2515.Just behind with score of 2497 was Dennis H, Bryce (Les’s mate from Ozz) Kevin and Yung collecting TB 400.

Highest score (TB100) went to John X with 269.

Please come early enough to get your practice game finished by 3.50pm. We say this often but still people continue to bowl when we are trying to get the teams up. Thanks.

Bowling 20th January

Good crowd of 31 here this week, including a couple of o/sea visitors.

Two of the visitors, Rolf and David, teamed up with C.T. and Fon to win the day. C.T. and Rolf also took the two highest score prizes.

While the present handicap system generally works well, it is hard to set initial handicaps for new players. I think we may just say it's 80 for ladies and 70 for men unless the person declares they have bowled regularly before. Then it is the luck of the draw on the day.

Second spot today went to Phoo, Stewart, Dennis H and Surachot.

Only John V managed to beat his handicap in all games.

Back again next Wed as usual.

Bowling 13th January

Had the right number for 7 teams of 4 this week.

Les, R.J.,Richard and Christian were the early leaders being the only team to get over 800 in the first game. But they faltered and only managed 2nd place.

Winners were Scott, Rene, Kung and Gary L.

Good performers this week were Mike, Kung, R.J., and G.P. all bettering their handicaps in all 3 games.

Yung has had a good 3 weeks and has again taken over as our lowest handicapper.

Three players didn’t hang around for the results again and we have 200 baht to start the kitty next week.

Bowling 6th January

Been a bit slack in getting this to print this week. Been too much on!

Yung has decided to have a break from running the show and Les is back in the drivers seat. If anyone else would like to have a go for a while, they would be more than welcome.

1st event of the year was won by Gary L, Denis and newcomer John X. Gary L playing off a h/cap of 81 played real well (now back to 73 – still too high) 600 Baht

2nd place went to Phil W, Mike, Somsee and Yung. 400 B.

3rd to Richard, Les, John V and Rene. 200 B.

3 players didn’t stick around until the end and missed out on their prize money, so we have an extra 300 B to add to the kitty next week.

Stewart has been bowling real well lately and now finds himself our best bowler with a handicap of 29, so needs to bowl 171 each game – pretty tough eh !

OK see you next time - Les
