Bowling 23rd Dec

The holiday season upon us, there were 27 players this week. To all the members Happy holidays and Happy new year.

After two games Sherman's team had a 20 to 80 pins lead over the other competitors. Ning's last place team had a wonderful 3rd game to be the leading for the first place team prize with only Sherman's team to finish. Sherman's team needed to bowl a 805 to win the 1st place team prize. It came down to Sherman, who needed to bowl two strikes and 3 pins to win. Unfortunately this didn't happen and the early Christmas gift went to Ning,Pung,Walter and Surachot with a total team score of 2458pins. They must have been on Santa's good list this year!

A disappointed 2nd place finish went to Sherman,R.J.,Phil W.and Phoo with a total score of 2445pins.

Bowling 9th December

Good turnout this week of 28 players, making up 7 teams of 4. This week it wasn't which team was going to win the 1st place team prize but which team was going to win the 2nd place prize.

It was no contest for the 1st place team prize. The winning team by a large margin was Corky, Jason, Darrell and Ken with a total team score of 2760 pins. Every member of the team bowled over 200 in all three games. Team Game scores 1st 932 pins, 2nd 884 pins and the 3rd game 944 pins. (sorry! no team picture this week forgot the camera)

2nd place prize was a close race between Kevin's team and Michael's team . Michael 's team finished 1st and were in the lead after the last game. Kevin's team needed to bowl 802 to beat Michael's team and it looked like they would, after Brock bowled a strike and they needed one more to win. Unfortunately he didn't get the strike and the team of Michael, John Q, Surachot and Yung just eked out the win with a total team score of 2420 pins. Kevin's team lost by 6 pins.

High score goes to John V with a total of 261 pins.

Ollie get well soon from all the people at bowling !!!

Reminder: Next week after the bowling there is the Christmas party at the Old Bell for all people that signed up. Thank you Jo for organizing the Christmas party!!!

See you next week-Yung

Bowling 2nd December

It must be the high season again because there were 35 players this week, making up 8 teams of 4 and 1 team of 3. This is the largest group in three months or more. Welcome to a new bowler Paul and welcome back to Phil B..

Some good scores in the 1st game, 7 teams bowled over 800 keeping the competition tight. Walter's team took the lead with a game of 900 and Scott's team bowled 893 game to keep it competitive. In the 2nd game Walter's team still bowled over 800 to maintain the lead. Scott's team however couldn't keep up the steady bowling and knocked themselves out of the comp, for 1st place prize. In the last game the team of 3 made a surprising come back to take the lead away from Walter's team by bowling a 916 game but this was short lived.

Walter's team needed to bowl over 830 to win the team prize. In the end the 1st place team prize went to Walter, (3rd week in the money),Ben,Brock and Ning (finally winning after 15 months of trying!) with a total team score of 2617 pins.

Coming in 2nd place was the team of Darrell,(2nd week to pick up the money for 2nd place),Saitong and R.J. with a total team score of 2545 pins.

High score goes to Saitong with a total of 264pins. She just eked out the win from Brock and Jo, who both bowled a total of 261 pins.

2nd went to Phyllis, Brock, Gary L, and Darrell with a total team score of 2469 pins.

Bowling 18th November

A small group this week with some of our regulars away in Mae Hong Son. There were 23players, making 5 teams of 4 and one team of 3.

The high score prize was a close race with Yung leading after two games but Dennis H scored well in the last game to overtake Yung's score. Dennis thought that he had the high score prize but Ben also bowled well in the last game to roll pass the two guys for the high score prize with a net game of 250 pins.

Denis, Yung ,Walter and Dennis H bowled well in all three games to take the team prize with a total team score of 2559pins.

If you are interested in participating for the Christmas dinner at the Old Bell see Jo for further details. The cost is 530bht per person on Dec.16,2009.

Bowling 11th November

Even numbers this week of 28 people making 7 teams of 4 .

There were some good scores from 4 teams in the 1st round but the 1st round belonged to the team of Steve, Phyllis, Pung and Rene on lane 10 with a total team score of 890 pins. They were 85-90 pins ahead of their nearest competitors. The star of the team for the first game was Phyllis by achieving her first over 200 game. Congratulations!!! Her raw score was 211 pins and with handicap it comes out to be 274 pins. It looked like if this team could keep this momentum they were going to be a shoe in to win this weeks team prize. Unfortunately this team faltered in last two games and it gave the other teams a chance to take over the lead.

The team of CT, John Q, Colin and Mike B on lane 14 were 89 pins behind after the 1st game. After the second game they were only 6 pins behind Phyllis's team. They bowled steadily through all 3 games to win the 1st place team prize this week by having a total team score of 2513 pins. They beat Phyllis's team by 63 pins in the end.

2nd place consolation prize went to Phyllis, Steve, Pung and Rene with a total team score of 2413pins.

High score went to Phyllis with a total of 274 pins.
High score honorable mention goes to Denis with a total of 270 pins.

Thank you Scott for taking care of the books for the last 3 weeks.

See you all next week-Yung

Bowling 4th November

29 players this week, making up 5 teams of 4 & 3 of 3.
Welcome for his first visit since Jan 08 to Les' friend Wayne.

Quick out of the blocks with 849 were the 3 ball of Phil W, Kung & searching for her first win since Sept last year Ning. Closely pursued by "bad men" Dennis, Stewart, Jimmy & John V with 829.
After game 2 "the bad men" had taken a very narrow advantage of 3 with 1693 pins.

Alot of fun was had, as the 3 ball finished some time ahead of their main competitors, ending up with 2526 pins. All eyes were on "the bad men's" 3rd game. Ning & Kung did their very best to put off their rivals with heckling & banter, given & taken in good spirit. But sadly it was to no avail as all 4 fella's bowled better than their handicap in game 3, finishing with an impressive 2566 pins.

No high score prize this week, but it would have gone to team winner Stewart with a superb 262 (224 w/o h'cap)...sorry same as last week, mai mee satang!

In the last 16 wks, some of the regular players have won the following:
Twice - Somsee, Rene, Rex, CT, Kevin, Walter & John R.
3 times - Jimmy, Yung, Michael & Stewart.
Les has won on 4 occasions.
But way out in front having won no fewer than 6 times in the last 10 wks John V. Cut him I hear you cry!!

See you Wed for more fun - Scott

Bowling 28th October

As expected a smaller turnout of 23 this week with a few of the usual suspects away playing golf, inc regular organisers Yung & Les. Leaving it in my capable (?) hands, all went pretty smoothly even allowing for Corky playing up a bit at the start, unable to find his name!!
Welcome back to RJ & Steve both missing in action for a few months & also 1st time out for Mike's entourage Phoo.
A tie after game 1 with 3 ball Craig, Rex & Walter on 820 along with Corky, Jo, Mike & Ning.
After game 2 there were still only 2 pins separating these 2 teams, however both had been leapfrogged by Kevin, Kung, Ted & Scott...5 pins in the lead!
All to play for in game 3, but the 3 ball did just enough finishing with 2458.
With a 3 winning, we had 2nd prize which went to Corky's team who ended up with 2436.
High score would have gone to Mike with 242, sorry...insufficient funds!

It would be good if players could wait until the end for prize giving, not much to ask. Perhaps if they've gone...any money not claimed goes in next weeks pot?!

See you Wed - Scott

Bowling 21st October

A perfect 6 teams of 4 this week, but some quite low scoring. Only 2 teams managing to scramble above their handicaps. Welcome for her visit to Paing, who Ollie brought along.

Eventual winners Phil, Johns V & Q & Jimmy only managed 778 after game 1. But the 2 Johns both came good in game 3 bowling 247& 248 to clinch 1st prize (this despite Jimmys performance!), giving a team total of 2418.

Leaders after the first 2 games were a strong team of Les, Yung, Michael & Dennis, but not 1 of them managing to bowl to handicap in game 3 put paid to any chance of winning.

Kevin, Kung, CT & phyllis were pipped by just 7 pins. Remarkably Phyllis picked up high score with 252, having bowled 146 in game 1...some swing!

See you Wed - Scott

Bowling 14th October

A bigger group this week of 33 people, gave us 7 teams of 4 & 2 teams of 3. Everyone arrived on time, in fact we thought Phil W had his watch set wrong! Welcome to golf club secretary Christian who came on his motorbike during a downpour & looked a bit drenched by the time he go to us. Also great to see Craig back after his travels & hi to Dans brother Randy here for a visit.

It was quite tight this week, Yung's team scoring 808 after game 1, closely pursued by John V's team with 803. After game 2 things were even tighter with 4 teams only being divided by 34 pins, all still to play for.

However Yung & his team Stuart, DM & Rene won the day with 2479,(still not sure about that ball I saw being bowled down an empty lane!!)
2nd place was so close Yung actually handed the cash out to the wrong team, but sharp as ever Les (ex banker) saw that Scott, CT, Chris & Surachot just pipped John V's team by 10 pins.

High score was also close with Stewart & Scott both sharing the winnings with 246.

OK see you Wed - Scott

Bowling 7th October

Just a reminder, don’t forget to register with organizers as soon as you arrive. One person didn’t today and so missed out on the competition. This gave us 6 teams of 4.

Result today was a run-away win for Walter, Corky, Aoi and Scott who picked up 800B with team score of 2565 which was 148 pins in front of whoever was in 2nd place.

Colin put in an appearance after 7 weeks absence and picked up the high score 100B with a 257. Scott had the best overall performance with 685 pins and a gross of 481, followed by Yung & John R both with 480.

Overall the handicaps continue to work well. Bearing in mind with handicap teams of 4 should score 2400 and today 3 of them scored 2404, 2413 & 2417.

Same time, same station next Wed - Les

Bowling 30th Sept

Welcome back to Phil W. It's alway nice to have you back. 23 people this week making up 5 teams of 4 and one team of 3.

It was nail biting to the finish with three teams in the running for the 1st place prize. The team of D.M,Gary L and Corky were the 1st team to finish and were in the lead. They had a total team score of 2503pins. Les's team had to get 836 to win from Gary's team and they achieved that with no trouble.

Kevin's team was the last team to finish and it looked like they were going to steal the 1st prize prize away from Les's team. Like last week it came down to the last bowler to win for the team. The result ended in the same way as last week by Kevin's team losing by 7 pins. So, the winners of this week 1st place prize were John V,Jo,C.T. and Les with a total team score of 2517.

The high score went to Kevin with 256 pins .

Same time, same place-Yung

Bowling 23rd Sept

Welcome back to Jo and Rex after a month and half absence from bowling. In the first game all the teams had a difficult time to make their team handicap of 800. The only team that came close was Scott's team with a total team score of 795 pins.

Scott's team had the lead after the 2nd game and it looked like they would be the clear favorite winners of the first place prize. But they couldn't maintain the momentum (bloody Les!) in the 3rd game for the win. Kevin, Rex and John V. had a great 3rd game to snatch the 1st place prizes away from Scott's team by getting a total team score of 2455 pins to become the winners this week.

2nd place was a close race between Sherman's team and Surachot's team. Sherman needed to make 3 strikes for his team to win. He made a good effort but unfortunately he didn't make them. So his team lost by 7 pins. The winners of the 2nd place were John B, Surachot, Ollie and Ning with a total team score of 2409pins.

See you next week-Yung

Bowling 16th September

A small group again of 25 players and this time we decided to make 5 teams of 5. Unfortunately this format doesn't work well because it just takes too long to play,so in the future we won't use this format again. Welcome back to Scott and Ning from their long honeymoon, good to have you back!

Another week where one team blew away the other competitor's early in the game. The winning team were Sherman,C.T.,Ram,Stewart and Fon with a total team score of 3277pins. Their three game scores were 1142,1040 and 1095 pins . This team blew away their nearest competition by 252 pins. Ram and Fon made the biggest contribution to the total score of the team. It was just their day. Well done girls and keep up the excellent bowling.

2nd would have gone to John R.,Chris,John V., Gary L. and Ken with a total team score of 3025 pins. They too bowled excellent games but just not good enough.

See you wed-Yung

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Bowling 9th September

A small group this week of 20 players. Only one prize and the winners were John R,Somsee,Stewart and Corky. They just dominated the field by getting a score of 845,862,and 865 to have a total team score of 2572 pins. They were got better with every game.

2nd place would have gone to Les, Dennis H,Gary L,and C.T. Les's team scored 820,840,and 809 for total team score of 2469 pins. They made a valiant effort to catch them but John's team was just too good for the day.

The owner of the bowling ally is allowing our group to enter the lucky draw for the 32" flat screen TV each week. Only two names may be entered ,so Les and Yung will put their names in each week .If Les or Yung wins the TV, then, we have our own lucky draw for the TV.

See you next time-Yung

High score went John V. with 256 pins.

2nd high score went to Ted with 262 pins.

Thanks to Les for taking care of the books for the month of August and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

See you Wed-Yung

Bowling 26th August

20 Players today, a very manageable group.

Yung and Les were drawn in same team again. Would have been a stewards enquiry if they had won again for 3rd week on the trot, so they came stone motherless last.

800 B winners were John V, Darrell P (now won on his 1st two appearances) Kevin and Ted. Team score 2580.

Second with no prize – Ben, Shane, Phyllis and Stewart. Score 2499.

Might add Surachot, H, Ric and C.T. came in with 1st game score of 927 and ended up running 2nd last at the end...maybe the beer kicked in?

Best score on the day was C.T. with 280, but again no prize. Winners got the lot.

Best performers – C.T. total 691, Ted 676 and Shane 661.

That’s it again - Les

200 baht second place went to Dao, John D, Kung & Phyllis with 2442.

Last week most teams were struggling to reach the benchmark 2400. Today all but one of the eight teams exceeded it. Winners picking up 600 B were Michael, Rene & Corky with team score of 2619. In a close battle in the last game runners up for 400 B were Christian, Denis, Surachot & Sherman with 2616. Bowling 22nd July

Not a lot to report this week. Only 22 starters (but that makes it easier for scorers, handicapper etc). Two new players, welcome to Simon who came along with Walter and Jason who came with Chris T.

Surachot is back in form with 513 gross pins over 3 games, so that an average of over 170 per game. Highest score went to Christian with 252 in one game. How does he keep his high handicap you ask ?? (Yes we do ask!!)

Fairly comfortable winners were John R, Michael, Surachot and Phyllis by 95 pins over Craig, Les and Jo.

Michael, Walter, Cris and Les all exceeded the 200 mark in every game.

That’s it until next week -Les

Bowling July 15th

Quite a few regulars missing this week, but we managed to field 5 teams of four and 2 of three.

Good to see Chris back from UK taxi driving and welcome to Randy and Steven (Dan’s brother and nephew).

After the second round it was fairly obvious the 2 threes would not finish in the money so we made it 800B for 1st and 200B for second.

Would you believe two teams, Chris T, Randy, Chris & Dennis H and the other team John R, Gary L, Craig and Les both finished equal for second with score of 2400 (right on handicap). So had to share 200B between 8 of them, 25B each.

Winners were Denis, Christian, Pung and RJ with a score of (wait for it) 2401. One pin between first three teams.

Les managed highest net score (no prize) 248 in last game. That’s a change.

It’s on again next Wed.

Saturday, July 11, 2009

Bowling 8th July

A small group this week of 25 players making up of 4 teams of 4 and 3 teams of 3.

The day belonged to the ladies team of Ben,Phyllis and Jo.They were the winners of the team event with a total team score of 2517 pins. They dominated throughout all three games and did it with style and grace. I think that this is the first time that an all ladies team has won the team event. Way to go girls for making club history!!

The 2nd place team winners were Kung, Walter and Acker with a total team score of 2400pins.
Next week Les will be running the show, while I'm in Chiang Rai.

See you next time-Yung

Bowling July 1st

Even numbers this week of 32 players making up 4 teams of 8. Welcome to newcomers Da, Damian ,who are friends of Michael. And Tony & Frado, who are friends of Christian. The best bowler this week was Dennis H... He bowled 200,197,226 for a total raw score of 623pins in three games. Dennis H. had only one or two frames open throughout the three games. He is only the second player in club history to reach over 600 without handicap. Congratulations !!!!!!

The winners of the 1st place team prize went to Dennis H.,Martin,John R. and R.J. with a total team score of 2560 pins. In the last game they bowled over 900 to guarantee the win.

2nd place went to Michael,Damian,Yung and Frado with a total team score of 2502pins.

Wednesday 24th June

Thirty-one people this week making up 7 teams of 4 and one team of 3 . The bowling club has made a deal with the new owners in which, you will pay 100bht for 4 games and if you need shoes it will cost 30 bht more. The same as before . They do have a new promotion price of 5 games for 130bht including shoes but most of the regular members have their own shoes,so I think that this is better for the club. The other thing is we don't know when they will end the promotion.

What a battle in the last game between Jo's team and Rex's team . After the second game, Rex's team were leading by 33pins and it looked like they would be the winners. However Jo's team started to make a comeback in the last game with Jo leading the charge with 4 strikes in a row giving her team a chance to win. It seems that every time one team gets a good score the other team responded with a better score. Rex's team finished with 854 pins. Since they finished first Jo need to bowl a strike or spare in the last frame to take the 1st place prize. Jo's team finished with 876 pin, falling short by 11 pins. It was very exciting to watch, but in the end Rex,Sherman,Pung and Phyllis were the winners with a total team score of 2518 pins.

2nd place went to Surachot,H,Dennis H,and Jo with a total team score of 2507pins. Jo had the high score with 273pins.

Bowling 17th June

Welcome back to Phil H. and Nang! Good to have you back, even if it is only for a short time. Well this week there were 31 players making up 7 teams of 4 and 1 team of 3.

Congratulations to Corky for bowling over 200 for the first time!!! with handicap he had a score of 260pins. He would have been the high score winner if there was a prize this week. Well Done!!!

After the two games there were three teams in contention to win the first place prize but in the end the winners were Garry W.,Craig,Nang and Erik with a total score of 2496pins.Nang's first day back and she is in the winners circle and Craig has finally won the 1st place team prize since his return from Taiwan. The other two teams bowled poorly in the final game not even winning the 2nd place prize.

2nd place went to Corky,Ken,Stewart and Yung with a total score of 2471 pins. They made a remarkable comeback by bowling over 900 in the final game and put a little more pressure on the eventual winners in the last frame. Garry's team met the challenge and Corky's team took second.

See you Wed-Yung

Bowling 20 May

Well, back to normal numbers again with 24 people making up 6 teams of 4 . Welcome to new comer Christian . Thank you, Les and Scott for helping to organize the knock-out pairs tournament and to all the people that participated to make this tournament successful.

The high score prize went to JJ with a total score of 239 pins.

This week very low scores in the team competition event and almost all the teams didn't score better than 800 in a round. Dennis H,Surachot,John R. and Noi1 were the only team to get over 800 in one round. They won with a total team score of 2354 pins. Hopefully next week everyone will bowl better.

Les and John V. made a valiant effort to win but Stewart and Martin were just too strong ,even after Stewart's handicap was cut by more than 20 pins . Congratulations to Stewart and Martin for winning the knock-out pairs competition with a total team score of 1182.Les and John V.has 1120pins.The winners only won by 62 pins, a very close game. Afterwards Les thought that there should have been two prizes (hmmm!) ,ah well better luck next time.

Bowling Wed 25 Mar

Winners today – team score 2495 were Gary L, Somsee, Scott and Colin – B800.

Second place, but no baht were, Ning, Martin, Walter and John R.

Highest score B100, Ben with 249.

Best gross bowlers today were Surachot 506, John R 504, and welcome back to Craig after 15 months 495.

Gary Lyon’s score of gross 487 came to the handicappers attention and next week he will be off 51 (-10).

We have had a few comments that bowling format is becoming a little boring. Talking it over how would we feel about a ‘knock-out pairs’ competition.

: 16 teams of 2.

: B100 nomination fee per team and B100 each week for those teams left in the comp.

: Winning team prize after 4 weeks B3,000.

: Normal handicaps each week to apply.

: Those not in the competition and those knocked-out to play normally as usual.

Would appreciate your comments and any other suggestions – Thanks Les

Bowling Wed 4 Feb 09

In the absence of our organizers, Dao and Yung (holidaying in Singapore) Les had to step back into the breach this week.

At least it was a more manageable group of only 39 players.

The one team of 3 – Ken, Martin & Brock had a real day out and blitzed the field. All bowled really well to come up with an average team score of 2597 – hard to beat and it wasn’t ! Well done guys.

Second place with a creditable score of 2438 went to Pat, Ning 4 (her 2nd game) Michael & John P still 159 pins behind the winners.

Most other teams had a day they would rather forget, but some hard triers for their teams were : Ted 697, Ben 685, Erik 671, Gary L 664, Vince 654, Richard M 644, & Ram 638.

There were some good individual high game scores with Ted hanging around to collect the money on 255 until the last team to finish came in with Garry W on 259.

Some players came to the attention of the handicapper and some who got the axe were :

Brock 61 (-19) Ted 56 (-19) John R 32 (-9) Rene 82 (-8) Garry W 56 (-7) & Ben

74 (-7).

Just a reminder – try and help your organizers

: try to register by 3.30pm in these days with the larger numbers involved.

: ring Yung 0850363848 or Les 0837620891 or someone else you know to let us know if you are going to be late.

: finish practice games by 3.50pm so teams can go up for 4,00pm start.

: Alley staff are having to work harder these days, they don’t get much, so if you can drop a little something in the tip box it would be appreciated.

See you next Wed.
