Vale - Anita
It is with much regret that I must inform you all of the passing of Anita at age 90 years last week.
Unfortunately, we were informed too late to organise anything for her cremation on Saturday but I do believe that Rex & Jo attended and undoubtedly would have relayed our respects.
She is remembered by and will be sadly missed by all who knew her I am sure.

Mark on holiday from Australia staying with Les, Dr Graham a regular visitor from Scotland, Hiro and Yuki, local Japanese known to the golfers, and Brock from Canada back again. We lose Darrell Steen back to Canada this week after a 2 week visit.
Couple of good performances this week with Surachot back in form and the improving Scott, both with 502 gross pins.
Winners today of the 10 teams of 4 for 800 baht were Gary L (644) Brock (647) Colin (699) and Ted (581). Team net score 2571.

Bowling Wed 6 August
35 players this week. One new one Nam who is a pretty good bowler already. Tried to get me to give her 100 handicap. Watched her practice game and gave her 75, she gets a mention below.
No outstanding performances. Yung and John R were best gross bowlers with 453 and 451.
Highest score B 100 to Surachot with gross 246. He also had the best net on the day 659. Others to bowl 3 games above handicap in each game were Jim C (623) Nam (617) David W (613) and Jo (640).
Fairly easy winners of B 800 by 26 pins were Ram, Jo, Garry L and Scott. Total team score 2444.
Second place B 400 to Michael, Mike, Les and Ken with 2418.
As we had 7 teams of 4 and one of 3, we tried a different system of working out scores. Rather than have a team average for all teams, we simply averaged out the team of 3 and multiplied that by 4. Checked this after the game and this system seems to work. Lots less work and gives a team net pins score on the board.
Another week done and dusted - Les

Bowling Wed 16th July
30 players this week, broken up into 6 x 4 and 2 x 3.
Winners for B600 were the three Englishmen – Chris (634) Michael (620 and David W (641) giving them a team average of 210.5.
Runners up for B400 by the lowest of margins (i.e. half a pin) were Lee (658) Ben (636) Scott (641) and Yung (585). Team average 210.0
High net game score B100 was won by H (254) just in front of Lee (250)
Mentioned last week that we were losing Gerry for 3 weeks, that was a misprint a should have read 3 months.
This week H is leaving us to return to work in Africa for a couple of months.
Just a bit of trivia, over the past 3 months four people have won 3 times, Erik – J.J. – Colin & John R. Seven people have won 2 times and twenty seven have won once. So the prizes are pretty well distributed.
On again Wed. when we should see Shane (the man with the arm action) back on holiday from Ozz - Les

Bowling 25th June
Eight teams of 4 today – perfect numbers.
Good to see Susan, Graham B, and David W back after a few weeks off. Welcome to lady Lee for the 1st time.
No real good performances again, Surachot was the best with gross of 475 pins.
Anita won 200 baht for best net game score of 263 in second frame. Well done Anita, your best game yet I think.
Winners of 800 baht with net team score of 2438 were Ben (650) Lee (1st timer – 572) Richard J (589) and wonder of wonders Les (1st time in 2 years -627)
Second place 400 baht went to Corky (608) Gary L (588) David W (578) and Som See (652). Team total 2426.
We might need some adjudicators at the draw in future as Les got in a winning team, Gary L got to play with the high scoring Som See and Scott maybe picked his own team.

Bowling Wed 18 June
8 teams this week including 2 three’s.
No real outstanding performances, Surachot was the best with gross 495 pins after 496 last week, so that’s pretty consistant.
Winners of B 800 were Surachot (633) Dao (666) Jeff (627 and John V (630). Team average 213.
Second for B 400 three pins behind were Jimmy (614) Scott (591) Colin (672) and Ben (643). Team average 210.
So I have heard it said that teams of three have better chance than teams of four. Not the case today anyway.
No high score prize today.
That’s it then, not much else to report on. Hope to see you next week – Les.

Bowling Wed 11 June
Whoops – late getting this on site again.
Nine lanes this week. Only newcomer was Nai (with Jeff) – welcome Nai.
Yung is back into good form lately and is proving to be our best bowler. He knocked over 547 pins today and suffered a 14 drop in handicap for that effort.
Highest Score B 100 went to Michael B 263 who just topped Yung’s 261.
Second team prize B 400 went to Richard 592, Michael B 684 and Ram 588. ( Team ave 207 ). So once again highest individual score gets their team in the money.
By the way would you believe we now have two men with the same name, John Richard. So the newest one is just being referred to as Richard on the scoreboard. ( both of them in the money today ).
Winners for B 800 were Dennis 614, John R 704 (good bowling John) Mike 606 and Colin (again) 623. ( Team ave 212 ).
Would welcome any thoughts about having an International Teams Day sometime.

Bowling wed 4th June
Boy, the weeks seem to go past fast.
Couple of new players this week. Jeff from Orlando Florida in U.S. who has been around Thailand for a couple of years. And Tim from Stratford-on-Avon in U.K. who has been here 3 years. Tim is a Therapist here in Chiang Mai, so if any of you golfers would like a consultation, I have his number.
33 Players today and best gross bowlers over 3 games was Yung who just failed by 1 pin to reach 500.
J.J. had best day out again today winning high net score B 100 in 2nd frame with 273, which as often happens helped her team to B 800 1st place. J.J. 183-273-204 (660)
Richard 192-227-224 (643) and Mon 233-206-216 (655).
2nd Place B 400 was John B 194-189-196 (579) Mike 222-238-192 (652) and Yung 212-216-248 (676) – 51 pins in arrears.
Just a reminder we would like you all there by 3.30pm or give someone a call and to let us know you are on the way. With numbers of 30+ it takes a bit of time to organize the draw.
Also practice games to finish by 3.50pm so Jack can get the teams up on the monitors before start time of 4pm,
Thank you – hope to see you next week - Les

Bowling Wed 28th May
Even numbers again today, with 7 teams of 4.
Not much to report on. John Richards had top net score of 253 for 200 baht.
Only one team failed to reach the handicap mark. Others were close with 2414, 2420, 2442, 2459 & 2460.
But easy winners for the 800 baht with a very good score of 2520 were – Jo (651) Ben (605) Gerry (621) & Garry W (643). It was only Ben’s second appearance and she's in the money already.
Have a good week, see you next Wednesday - Les

Bowling Wed 21 May
The circus continues to grow – 39 bowlers today. Four new ones, Rene & Pung (known to golfers) with their friends Corky and Ben. Always good to see Phil Hopper back from work in UK with Nang and Lilly.
No performances worth writing home about this week and in fact only 3 teams out of 10 managed to achieve a handicap team average of 200.
Winners for B 750 were a boys team of 3, Jimmy 166-196-220 (582) Ken 195-246-219 (660) & Colin 162-216-225 (603) team average 205.
Colin is in there again !!

Second for B 400 were Jo, Tom, Yung & Garry W with team average of 203.
High game score B 200 won by Nongruk with 254 and second high game B 100 to Ken with 246.
Next week we might put up a nomination form for an International Teams Event in a few weeks time. Just for something different.
Cheers - Les

Wed 14 May
Sorry, a bit late getting last Wed’s results posted, has been a busy week.

Best bowler on the day belonged to Som See again with her 279 – 211 – 242 ( 732 ) or gross 513. Well done Som! Also worth a mention was Michael with 244 – 265 – 179 ( 688 ) or gross 502. What happened in the last frame Michael ?
So Som See won B100 for high net game score of 279 and that helped rest of her team of Ley, David H, and Ken into 1st Place for B800. Total ave team score of 212.
Close behind in 2nd place and B400 were Anita, Jo, Martin and Jimmy with 208 ave.
Supposed to be low season at present, but we re still getting good numbers along with 34 players this week.

See you next Wed - Les.

Bowling Wed 7th May
Still lucky with numbers again and had 7 teams of 4. Welcome back to Garry Lyon’s son David who had a previous game with us last December.
No real good performances, but John V bowled 221-222-231 (674) Scott 221-261-235 (717) Martin 237-245-211 (695) David Lyon 222-216-200 (638) to be above their handicaps in all three games.
Gerry got 216-288-193 (697) to win the high net score B200 with his 288. Obviously tried to protect his handicap in the last game, but he has still loss 16 points down to 61. (that’s more like it)
Winners without a challenge of the B800 were Som See, Martin, Erik and Gerry, total net team score of 2552. Second place were 100 pins behind them, a big win.
A reminder not to forget to pay for the bowling before you leave. One player has missed the past two weeks. I find it a good idea to go pay during the afternoon before finishing (and before the Leo kicks in).
Okay, hope to see you next week.

Some more new faces today. Welcome to David Hub & Ning (No.3) Mike (Anita’s son-in-law) and Keith. Good to have Dennis, Susan and H back with us again as well.
Have been lucky with teams of 4 lately and had 32 players today.
J.J. had the best scores with a gross 507 pins for the 3 games, (net 675) and highest net game score of 250. Sorry no money again for that this week.
After the 2nd game the boys team of Colin, Michael, Ian and Keith were all bowling very well and were looking good for the money, even though they only had a slender lead of 9 pins. However the Singa’s and Leo’s must have kicked in and they all crashed in the last frame to finish out of the placings.
This gave the B 800 to J.J., Koy, Surachot and Jim with a good team score of net 2579.
Second place B 400, went to Ram, Aoi, Les and John B with a good steady performance of 2536.
I think the boys who keep the score etc for us only come in to work for a couple of hours to look after us and it would be appreciated if you could remember the tip box (ice bucket) on the bench, near the score board, on your way out.
Hope to see you next week - Les

Bowling Wed 23rd April
Welcome back to Ian Mackay (with Mon) from U.K. whom we hadn’t seen since last Dec. Also Waw back after 3 months in Bangkok.
5 teams of 5 played today. No special mentions this week. No one bowled over or close to 500.Winners of 200B each and net scores were : Erik 229-203-212 Jo 198-213-197 John B 223-236-203 Ley 189-250-212 and Ian Mac 222-197-217. Toal team net score 3201. All bowled ave over 200 each game. Very hard to beat.
Second place was 48 pins behind them. But all 5 teams bowled over the handicap mark of net 3000, albeit that my team only made it by 8 pins to run last.
Highest net game scores were shared by Ley and Len with 250. But no prize today.
Well the equipment was back to operating okay again today thank goodness. Don’t know whether we had anything to do with that or not. Nothing else of interest –
hope to see you next week - Les

Bowling Wed 16 April
Lennart is heading back to Sweden this week to give someone else a chance of having a win, but he has threatened that he will return. It seems we have started a Swedish connection with Kjell, Nit and Inger joining us today. Also Chris is returning to UK for a while, but sure we will see him again as well.
7 teams of 4 today which was a good number of players, especially with some regulars missing. Ted comes to mind, back in Canada again I understand.
Not many good scores today, probably due to the fact that the machinery was malfunctioning badly again, I know it puts me off. Tried to get the message across to management that if it is the same next week we may have to go play at U.F.O. Bowling. We did this once before and it worked.
Lennart continues to perform better and better. Knocked over 554 pins in his 3 games. ( 164-187-203 ) When he gets back again he will find a handicap of 21 (-14) waiting for him.
Yung seems to get a mention each week and managed to grab to high net score prize with 248, which is the lowest for a while.
Easy winners today were Fon ( 211-201-198 ) Mon ( 207-234-214 ) Lennart ( 199-222-238 ) & Colin ( 188-190-202 ) Team total 2505. This was the only team to better the team handicap mark of 2400. Must make a point of asking Colin how he does it, I haven’t had a collect for bloody ages.
Lets hope lanes are working better next week - Les

Welcome Phil & Liz White from Darwin, Australia and guests of Garry W. Also first time out for Gerry Brimcombe, Canadian who spends a good deal of time in Chiang Mai.
Farewell to Bryce, Nee and Jack, hope to see you again next year. Will have the actual handicaps for you next time Bryce and Jack. ( 93 & 136 )
Big crowd again this week 9 lanes of 4. Unfortunately the scoring system wasn’t working to well at all, but the staff managed to correct it fairly quickly most of the time.
Lennart had another good day with top net game score of 278, total 3 game gross score of 526 ( net 664 ) and has reduced his handicap to 35.
Yung’s 3rd game score is worth a mention – 87 – there you go, anyone can do it !!

Runners up – Noi ( 659 ) Fon ( 596 ) Erik ( 650 ) and Garry W ( 539 ) team total 2444 for 400 baht.

Bowling Wed 2 April
Welcome to Bryce Winston, his wife Nee and son Jack on annual visit from Western Australia. Bryce played one game with us last year with a total gross score of only 250, which gave him a handicap today of 116 which proved to be the undoing of the rest of us.
Phil Williams leaves this week for sunny Wales, hope to see him back towards the end of the year. Tell Emely we all miss her at bowling Phil.
7 teams of 4 today made a good number.
Ken, Phil, Nee and Pim were early leaders after the 1st frame by 21 pins over Rex, Yung, Ley and Nongruk. But in the 2nd frame Bryce (h/cap 116) and Lennart bowled net 249 and 253 to give their team with J.J. and Aor a lead of 41 pins (all over red rover). They all carried on in the 3rd frame with Lennart a 238 and Bryce winning the high net score with 278. The team finished with a total net score overall of 2552, best ever I think, that’s a game average of 850 per frame.
Lennart also had the best gross score of the day with 3 game total of 524. Very good team performance.
Rex, Yung, Ley and Nongruk held on to 2nd place with a 2508. Another good performance.
Under our h/cap system Bryce retains a handicap of 92, which I know doesn’t seem right, but that the way we work it out. It will right itself in due course.

Wed 26 March
This week we had a perfect turnout of 32 Bowlers which gave us 8 four person teams. Again this week we welcomed two new lady bowlers, Noi and Fon and again this week the fill in handicapper guessed wrong as Noi ended up with the high score of the day at 249. She was closely challenged by Garry W. who recorded a 243.The team of Colin, Rex, Somsee and Lay jumped into an early lead with an 820 and they never looked back. In the second game they followed up with an 843 and an impressive 853 in the third. I should mention that the ladies on the team quite outdid the men with all six of their games over 200! The second place team of Garry W., John V. John b. and Jim had a poor start with a 767 in the first, but came back in the second and third with an 829 and an 859.Next week Les should be back and we all look forward to seeing his smile as he cuts our handicaps to where they should be.

Wed 19 March
The heat must be making people lazy as we had a much smaller turnout this week with only 27 bowlers out for the afternoon. A warm welcome to two new bowlers Sunni and John B.The fill-in handicapper did a poor job of allocating an 80 handicap to John B. as he powered his team into first place in the first game with a 236 helped by team mate Martin who scored a 243. The two ladies in the group Tom and Ley also contributed and gave the team a total of 846 for an average of 211. They continued in this winning way with an 858 in the second and an 824 in the third and the first place prize with a winning average of 210.The race for second place was hot after the second game with the team of Dan S., Dennis, JJ, Dao, tied with Ted, Mr B., Pim, and Sai Tong at an average of 201. However, in the third game Pim, and Sai Tong pulled their team into second place scoring a 230 for Pim and a 240 for Sai Tong. Ted and Mr B. had a 219 and a 187 for a total score of 876 giving them an average of 207 and second place. The high score of the day went to Yung. After a miserable first game, he opened his second game with two open frames and a spare and then another open frame and at this point was not looking good. The next five frames were strikes followed by a spare and a strike to finish the game with 201 scratch and 251 handicapped for the high game prize.

Bowling Wed 12 March
Another huge turnout of bowlers this week with 39 on the lanes. It would have been 40 but Len was held up at the Bank (or holding up the Bank!) and couldn't make it. A warm welcome to 3 new bowlers, Richy who is Anita's grandson, Chan, Mr B's significant other and Laza who came with Colin.
All ten lanes were ready to bowl at 4pm and it was no contest for 9 teams as the team of Colin, John, Sai Tong, and Aoi ran away with an early lead. In the first game they posted an 844 total for an average of 211, with Aoi bowling the high game for game one with a 249. They kept up the pressure in game two with an 835 for an average of 210, and then put the win beyond doubt with a whopping 903 in the third game for a final average of 215.
The closest rivals and second place team of Dao, Erik, Garry W. and Koy scored 805, 823, 834 for a final average of 205. Garry W. tried to put the team in contention with a final game effort of 251 which piped Aoi's high game of 249 and was enough for the high game money and team second place.
With bowling over we said goodbye to Brock who won't be back until December, and wished him well as he deals with the snow and ice of the lingering Canadian winter.

Bowling Wed 5 March
Wow, 42 people turned up this week. Good luck next week Gary Lyon.
Best bowler was again Yung with total of 519 pins over the 3 games. He suggested before the start that we could have a prize for best gross score . Voted out, bad luck mate.
There were some really good individual net game scores :
Surachot 233
Nongruk 235
Aoi 235
Ken 236
Tom 238
And the best for the money,
Mon 259 and
Martin 265
Martin also had the best total net score over 3 games of 697. And somehow has only dropped handicap from 80 to 63.
Team money winners were :
Anita, Sai Tong, Dao and Brock with 213.4
Second place : Dan E, Jimmy, Yung and Gordon L 207.8
Closely followed by
Phil, Colin, Ram and Mon 206.3
And Chris, Martin, Michael and Thomas 205.5
So only 8 pins in top 4 spots.
See you in 4 weeks, good bowling - Les

Bowling Wed 27 Feb
Power went off when we arrived this week, but there were still 39 people waiting to play when it came back on at 4pm starting time.
Couple of newcomers again this week, sorry in the power confusion I didn’t get to talk with them, - Dennis & Martin – I think Canadians.
Best performance this week was again Surachot, back in form, with gross total of 517 pins.
Best Net were :
‘H’ 227-225-247 ( 699 ) still grizzling about handicap
Anita 272-213-211 ( 696 ) got to get her handicap down some how
Ning 2 224-234-213 ( 671 ) just her 3rd try
Colin 202-211-213 ( 626 ) about time
Was a close contest today with Ram, Ning 2, Surachot & Ted winning by 1.3 pins with team ave of 210.3 from Anita, Jo, John R & Colin on 205.2
Phil W, H & Dan S, just missed out on the money with 205.2.
Anita had highest net game score prize with the 272.
Rex and Gary L are going to share the paperwork while I am away for 3 weeks from 12th March. So we all thank them.
Don’t forget Surachot’s party on Fri 29th Feb.

Bowling Wed 20 Feb
Wow 39 starters this week. We’ll need to get two venues shortly.
Michael and Susan brought along Susan’s sister and niece, Anita and Ettie visiting from Northampton U.K. John Vidler, Aussie, who has been around Chiang Mai for a while now, came along for his first try and did pretty well. Hope you all enjoyed.
Well the star of the day was certainly JO, she bowled 3 handicap games of 258 – 263 – 260. Total net for the day 535 pins. Well done Jo. Len also had a very good day with 512 pins. But no one was going to take the high game score prize off Jo, who has slashed 21 off her handicap as a result.
However Jo’s effort didn’t stop the winners, Mol, Susan,Keith and Ted with team average of 217.33. Second place Erik, Mr B, David and Tom on 208.6.
Yours truly is off on his Philippine philandering on 8th March and will miss 3 weeks bowling. We will need a volunteer to fill in, so if someone would like to have a go, see me next week.
Good bowling - Les

Winners with a couple of visitors were Doug, John P, Michael and Rex on 2493.
Second place prize money went to Colin, Yung, Scott and Ning with 2436.
Best net game score was Dow in the last with 268. Unfortunately no prize money this week.

With Les away it was left to Gary L to run the bowling and he did a brilliant job even managing to get us away early. This is his report on the days events
Last Wednesday saw another big turnout with 32 bowlers competing for the prize money, and the competition was hot. After the first game Mr B thought he might have the high score wrapped up with a 248. However, Rex got his big golf ball rolling in the third game and powered his way to a high game score of 268.
There was a tight race for the best team average with the team of Somsee, Len, Erik, Dan, and Michael neck and neck with the team of Rex, Gordon L., Garry W. and Ning. For the the first two games it was a virtual tie but Rex's big high game in the third pushed the team to a 215.8 average and won the day.

Bowling Wed 30 Jan 08
Odd number of 31 this week. So it was 7 x 4 and 1 x 3.
Best gross bowlers were: YUNG 479
JOHN. R. 476
and RAM 465. Well done.
So, no real outstanding performances.
Welcome for first time with us to Anita from Kansas in good old USA who I understand is now living with her Daughter and Son-in-Law here in Chiang Mai. I’m sure Anita won’t mind if we add she is 89 years young and will be 90 in April. She has dropped her bowling ball weight from 14lbs to 12lbs because she says she is getting older. Anita bowls a great curve bowl and had a strike in her second frame in Chiang Mai. A great lady.
Winners today got lucky in the draw with two in form bowlers Dow and John R teaming up with two high handicappers, Ning and Aor. Thet all played above theit handicap ratings and ended with a team net average of 215.3.
Second place, 17.5 pins behind were Michael, Jo, Nungruk and Susan.
We didn’t have enough baht for high game score this week, but would have gone to Aor with a net 241 to help her team to victory.
Be back next week - Les

Ram had the best overall performance with 493 pins.
It was a close contest this week with only 8 pins separating 7 teams at the end of the three games.
Winners helped along by Ram’s best gross score were Ning, Ram, Ken and Jim by the margin of 1 pin from Graham, Garry W, John R, Ted and Gary L.
Best net score was David’s 293 in the last game.

Bowling Wed 16 Jan
Michael and Susan brought a friend and new bowler along this week and we hope she will come back.
Played 5 teams of 5 again.
Som See had an outstanding day, won high net score with 296 ( almost perfect game ) and bowled down a gross 514 pins (net 760) over 3 games. Well done Som, your handicap has been reduced from 82 to 62.
With Som See leading the way it was fairly easy for the rest of team, Mol, Len, Surachot and Lucky Yung to share the money. Total team net score 3134.
Second place to Jo, Dow, Jim, Rex and Colin 77 pins behind after being 37 pins in front at the last turn.
Shortest odds in the betting before the game, Ram, Aoi, Scotty, Gary L, and Les ran last, 219 pins behind.
Should have Gary W, JJ, and Phil Williams back next week and maybe Phil’s niece who is over here for 3 weeks.
OK – see you then - Les

Bowling Wed 9 Jan 08
8 teams of 4 this week. A good number to work with. 1st and 2nd prizes, B 800 & B 400, but no high score prize.
Once again Yung was the only one to break 500 pins with 519 and is now on 25 handicap.
Easy winners this week were Tom, Oi , (again) Keith and Yung on 2490 followed by David, Ken, Colin and Len in second spot with 2458.
Welcome to first timers Mr B. and Nang. Was also good to see Phil Hopper back on flying visit from UK for a week.
Top net game score if we have had one would have gone to Len with 256.
There should have been some photos on site this week but our intrepid cameraman Ted forgot to put the battery in his camera. Maybe next week.
