Welcome to newcomers(American) Paul and his lady Sue, Dan Evans brought Mol along and Wayne is back in town from Australia for holiday after 12 months. Four teams bowled better than handicap, 2412, 2433, 2434 and winners Oi, Dow, Dan E, and Wayne 2438 pins. Runners up – Julie, Ram, Erik and Brock.
If you intend to have a practice game before the main event, could you please come a little early and finish practice by 3.45pm so we can get the teams up on the screens by 4.00pm. Thanks.
Farewell to the visitors leaving us, hope you enjoyed it as we enjoyed your company. See everybody else next week - Les

Bowling Wed 19 Dec
Once again a very big turn out of 37 players today. We played 8 teams of 4 and a fiveball.
Three newcomers, Dan (an Aussie) well known to the golfers and Dennis from Kansas City, Missouri. (and I thought it was in Kansas). Noel brought Yai along for her first time as well. Hope you all enjoyed it and that we will see you back.
Well this week Waw got her team of Rachel, Scott and Jimmy off to a good start in her first game with gross 202 (net 262) to win highest game score despite Yung’s best effort of gross 200 (net 257).
Waw and the team were never headed on the day and went on to win with a team average of 212.
Second place was a close affair and we had to wait for a late finish from the team of 5 boys, Surachot, Len, Ted, Dennis and Ian Mac to see them run 2nd with 207 from three other teams with 200, 203 & 205.
Best bowler was again Surachot with gross 525 pins over three games.
Sorry no photo’s I’m computer illiterate and don’t know how to get them on file. Pim took some photo’s, maybe she could do it.
Was our annual Xmas Dinner today after bowling. Held this year at ‘The Old Bell’. Good food and good time. Thanks go to Jo for organization.

Bowling Wed 12 Dec
A big turn out of 33 this week, including 4 relatives visiting Rex & Jo. A big welcome to Chiang Mai to Rachel, Anna, Julie and Stephen. Dan's daughter-in-law Yafong is also visiting and joined in the events of the day. Welcome back to Brock who has just returned from Canada and whom we haven't seen since last March.
No real outstanding performances from the locals, but visiting Stephen knocked over 495 pins to halve his handicap from 70 to 35 for next week.
This weeks winners were Ram, Jo, Stephen and Dan with a team average of 204 to beat the team of five, Gary L, John, Dow David and Len by just a single pin.
Highest score went to Len with 255.
Looking forward to Xmas Dinner at the Old Bell next week - Les

Bowling Wed 5 Dec
7 teams of 4 again this week.
Welcome back to 'H' from his 3 month African Safari and as it was the Kings Bithday and no school, Koy was with him as well. Gary L also has his Son & Daughter-in-law, David and Jen visiting him, welcome and hope you both enjoyed the day. Erik also has his sister visiting and brought Brother-in-law, Chris along for a game.
After Round 1, there were 3 teams locked in battle with Erik, Scott, Oi and Ram in front on 847 and 2 other teams close behind on 843 & 830. But Erik and Co. were in fine form and posted scores in next two games of 869 & 875 to win the day by 21 pins from Rex, 'H', Gary L and Ken who had 3 excellent rounds of 796, 875 & 898.
Scott (???) won the highest net game score with a 261 in the 2nd, to help his team to overall victory.
Best gross bowlers bowlers this week were John 509 and Gary L 489 who have shaved 8 and 12 off their handicaps respectively.
Seems all is in place for our Xmas Dinner on 19th to be held at The Old Bell (25/1 Loi Kroh Rd). Cost is an extra 45 baht per head, so please settle this with Jo.
Bowling Alley has a new restaurant come kareoke on the third floor and quite a few of us went up to eat there after the game. Being their first night I guess they were a little unprepared for so many people and service was extremely slow. But the food was very good and well priced and Ted & JJ did their best to serenade (!?!) us all while we waited. Several toasts were made to welcome our visitors and returning bowlers and also to congratulate Colin & Da on getting back together.

Bowling Wed 28 Nov
Six teams of four again this week.
Waw, Sue, Keith and Garry W, were looking the goods after the first round with a lead of 31 pins. But in the 2nd game Dan, Noel, Les and Ted came up with a great score of 907 to lead Waw and Company by 54 pins and were counting the money. Then once again in the last game the Tigers kicked in and Waw and Company kicked on with a last game score of 874 to win the day by just 14 pins.
Once again Surachot had the best gross game score on the day with 204 pins and he also broke 500 with 504 pins total for the day. He’s the man !!
Noel won highest net game score with 255 followed by Ted 247 and Michael and Sue 240.
There was 340 baht donated during the day towards taking a couple of the staff to our Xmas Dinner. Thanks a lot. We will have to do this again over the next couple of weeks until we come up with 700 baht. Looks like we are going to have to find another venue as the Laughing Leprechan has been sold. Jo is investigating for us.
The bowling gets a mention in the Chiang Mai Mail this week, so maybe we might get some new players.

Bowling Wed 21 Nov
We had a few regulars missing this week but still came up with 6 teams of 4.
For something different this week we drew 2 teams of 4 girls, 3 teams of 4 boys and one team 2 girls and 2 boys.
After round 1 the composite team of Jo, Emely, Jim and John had a good lead of 37 pins.
By the end of round 2 their lead had been reduced to 15 pins. Unfortunately they crashed in the last game while the boys team of Surachot, Phil W, Keith and Ted surged ahead to win the day by 31 pins, including a last game high net score by Ted of 255. Phil Williams back from Wales for 2 weeks has managed 2 weekly wins and a high score prize ???
Best total gross scores went to Surachot 520 and Nungruk 507.
Next weeks Chiang Mai Mail newspaper shound include an article on us which Rex was asked to contribute plus a group photo taken last week.
We want to take a couple of bowling alley staff to our Xmas Dinner again this year and a small donation over the next few weeks to Jo would be appreciated to cover this

Wed 14 Nov
With the return of the golfers this week we had the perfect number of 28 players.
Welcome back to Phil & Emely Williams on a quick visit from the UK. They should be with us again next week as well.
After the first game it looked like we were going to have a partners shoot out with Garry W, Som See, Emely and Yung leading J.J., Gary L, Phil W and Jo by just 7 pins.
However Gary L’s team proved to be in great form throughout the day and had a big win in the end by 134 over Erik, Phil H, Keith & Les who pipped Gary W’s team by 1 pin for 2nd place.
Phil Williams won the best net game score with 256 in his last. Best gross over the day was Emely ( who has lost none of her prowess ) with 490. Other good performances were Yung 483 and J.J. 481.
Don’t forget to pay Jo for the Xmas Dinner on 19th Dec as early as you can. Baht 350 per person.

Also anyone interested the bowling alley is having a soft opening for their fitness club Fri 16 Nov at 11am. Any of our group who attend will have a free lunch at 12pm and get vouchers for 2 free games of Bowling, 3 days free at fitness centre, and 2 hrs free on the pool tables.

Bowling Wednesday 7 Nov
I trust your Golf Fest is going well, here's a few lines (sorry - no pics) on yesterday's games.
" In the midst of a major 3 day golf tournament we were pleasantly surprised to be able to field 4 teams of 4 and one of 3. The nineteen players were made up of 16 regulars and 3 newcomers.
They were David, from Wales, a long time Chiang Mai resident, married with a charming but working Thai wife Fern, together with Michael & Susan, who retired here 4 months ago from Northamptonshire, England. They all enjoyed their Bowling, Nice to meet you all, hope to see you next week.
The pattern of the afternoon's play was set from game one, with Surachot, Erik, Ken and Phil the clear winners, an average score of 205.5.
Their form was repeated in the other 2 games, with their final average increasing to 207.5, the only other team to have scored over the handicap at the end of the match was the trio of Len, Dow and newbie Michael, with 203.33.
High Score credit belongs to John who achieved a fine 245 in his last game of the set.
We shall be missing Surachot and Nongruk for the next 2 weeks as they are off to Bangkok for a while, but look forward to seeing all the golfers back next Wednesday for another afternoon of Fun Bowling."

Bowling Wednesday 31 Oct
Couple of new bowlers this week, John F who came along with Len and Alan who was staying with Dan. Canadian Keith came along with Ted, back for a game after he was last here in 11/06.
Best gross scores for the day were John with 459 and Dow 457. Others over 400 were, Colin 427 (???) Erik 425 and Ram 404. Well done ! Best net game score went to John in 2nd game with 252.
With 25 players we had 5 teams of 4 and another of 5.
Dow, Oi, Alan and Rex were in good form early to record avge team score of 224.5 after the first. In the 2nd they dropped off to 201.37 only 1 pin ahead of Ram, Jo, Phil and Len on 200.37. But Dow had a real good day and held the team together to win by 4.42 pins.
Next week most of the golfers will be absent with commitment to playing an annual 3 day event with visitors coming from Udon Thani. Register with Rex when you arrive.

Bowling Wednesday 24 Oct
Mostly all the regulars were back this week (Garry W away with bad case of the flu) and we had 5 teams of 4 and 1 team of 3.
After the first round the boys 3 of Jam, Les and Rex were tied on 210 each with Len, Tom, Phil and Da. However the large tigers kicked in after that and the boys only managed to finish in 3rd place.
Winners were Len, Tom, Phil and Da with team average of 205.66 from Dan, Ken, Scott and Colin on 201.91.
Lowest team average this week was 191.5 up to the winners 205.66, so once again there is not much in it and any team can win.
Yung managed to get into the limelight again bowling a 226 (net 258) in one game to take highest score prize. Yung now has by far our lowest handicap of 28.
Sorry no photos as J.J. was not there (home nursing Garry) and Les never thought to bring camera.

Bowling Wednesday 17 Oct
Only 22 bowlers this week as quite a few of the regulars were absent. We divided up into 4 teams of four with 2 teams of three and based the win on the highest team average. Right from the start, the team of Rex, Yung, Jim, and Dow jumped into the lead with an average of 212.75. In this game Rex recorded what would stand as the high score of the day at 252. Much to Rex's disappointment I forgot my camera and JJ was not there to take her usual shot so Rex's fans in Cyprus and Singapore will not be able to see how well he's doing. As it turned out this team just got better and better with an average of 217.25 in the second game and 218.58 in the third. The closest rivals were John, Pim, and Richard with an average of 209.55. Lane 13 had mechanical problems again so that team were delayed long after the winners were finished. See you all next week.

Bowling Wednesday 10 Oct
8 teams of 4 this week – a good number.
Graham ( visitor to Garry W ) joined us for just the one day – but he does watch what is happening here on our website. I’m sure he enjoyed it. How was the shoulder on Thursday Graham ?
Everybody was a bit off form this week with Yung putting in best gross performance with 470 pins.
There were a few mutterings and calls for a stewards enquiry when Yung and Les drew Noi and Mon in the draw who had handicaps of 120 & 132. But this team could only make it into 2nd place with 2478 behind Nang, Aor, Garry W and Scott with 2481. (3 pins difference) Scott had a good day and bowled ave 19 above his handicap for the 3 games.
Mon’s handicap of 132 was good enough to get her the top net score in the 2nd game of 248.
See Gary Lyon to register next week, Les will be in Laos.

Bowling Wed 3 October
32 people again this week for 8 teams of 4.
Mike breeze leaves us this week to return to UK until after Xmas when we should see him back.
It was another close competition this week with Somsee, Oi, Les & Ian Mc. seeming to finish on top with 2469 pins however, Yung found an error in the score board addition of 10 pins which put them ( Dan, Yung, J.J. & Dow ) in front by 3 pins(2472). Erik, Phil H, Ted & Mike came in 3rd with 2463. So only 9 pins separated the first three teams. Pretty close eh !!
J.J. had another good day out and top scored with 499 pins.
Len had the best individual net game score with 251 in his last game and left early without collecting his prize. As did Ian Mc. for his share of 2nd prize. Oh well, more money for the Xmas party. Other good scores were Erik 249 and Les & J.J. 240.

Bowling Wednesday 26 Sept
29 bowlers this week, which again is a pretty large field. Next week we will do the draw with 2 men and 2 ladies, or as close as we can get to that.
Nongruk had a day out returning to some of her old form bowling a total gross 540 net 705, winning the best score prize in her 1st game with net 256.
As you can see from the photo Nongruk’s performance was enough for her team with Ted, Rex and Garry W, to win the day with a team average of 207.6 for the 3 games. Next best was Oi, Da, Ian and Somsee with 201.6.
Our best form bowler at the moment is Surachot with last 3 total days gross of 524, 498 and 500, giving him a current handicap of 30. Not bad eh !

Wednesday 19 September
Wow !! Our biggest turn out ever. 34 players this week.
Welcome back to Phil Hopper, back after 3 months tour of duty in London and wife Nang. Good to see Mike Breeze again back from U.K. after 6 months and Ian McKay, whom we haven’t seen since last May.
Erik was the man to watch this week. In his 2nd game he produced 6 strikes in succession to come up with gross 228, net 288, to easily win the top score prize. Well done Erik, good to see.
Just out of interest the highest score posted was a 299 by Pim back in May and Erik has over taken H's 280 in August to be in second spot with his 288.
Don’t know how Yung does it week after week, but he seems to get in the winning team each week. This time with Gaew, Ian Mc and Erik they were never headed and finished with a team average of 218.25 to beat 2nd place, Mike, Jo and Ram on 207.66.
Because of the high number of players, for the first time we had prizes for 1st and 2nd.
Hope to see you all again next Wed......cheers Les.

Wednesday 12 September
Good roll up of 28 players this week. A big welcome to new bowlers Craig Morriss and Gaew. Hope you enjoyed it and we will see you back again..
Well Yung and Bacca were drawn together with Jo and Tom to be what looked like a fairly formidable team and sure enough after the first round (in which Tom bowled a 237) they had established a lead of 59 pins.
After the 2nd round they were still 48 pins in front of Jim, Scott, Oi and Dow, who were pressing hard and finished the last round with a total score of 2530. Including 246 in the last game by Oi to take away the highest score prize...that in itself was a battle with Wow first getting 242, then Da getting 244, then Garry getting 245 only to be overtaken by Oi with 246.
Tom was in there with a chance right up to the very last ball as well.
Yung and his team were all playing above required average in the last game, were last to finish and we all thought they had it in the bag. Les gave them the prize money.
However, when the final scores went on the board, lo and behold they had only done enough in the last game for the total to come to 2530 points, a draw with Jim’s team.
There were some anxious moments rechecking the scores and Les trying to get the money back before Yung got out the door, but it was eventually retrieved and split between the two teams.
Our first draw I believe. See you all next week.

Wednesday 29 Aug
Again we had a good turnout of bowlers and picked 6 teams of 4, which made things easy to calculate. The high game of the afternoon was won by JJ with a 262 in the third game taking the win away from Rex who had nursed a high game of 241 from the first game.
After finishing second last after the first game the winning team cruised to victory with 836 in the second and 852 in the third giving them a 22 pin margin over the nearest rivals. Congratulations to Malcolm, Yung, Erik, and winning for the third week in row Josephine. Guess who will be the popular girl at the lanes next week!
Honourable mention should go to Yung who has been on the winning lanes with Jo two out of the last three weeks. Although I hesitate to mention that with a 139 in the first game Yung was 24th out of 24! Is that true or did those guys at PS Bowl make a mistake recording the scores? Well to give credit where credit is due it was a great comeback and super effort by the team.
Congratulations. See you next week

Wednesday 22 August
We had another good turnout with 24 bowlers enough to make 6 teams of four. Right from the start the two all-men teams (by random pick) were head to head in competition, with players on both teams casting glances at the other scores. At the end of the first game the team of Ken, John, Garry W., and Shane were neck and neck with the team of Dan, Gary l., Scott, and Colin with a tied total of 803 each. None of the other teams appeared in contention at this point.
In the second game Dan's team pulled ahead with an 859 to a fading effort of 794 by Ken's team. In the third game Ken's group put on a surge finishing with an 875 and a total of 2472 which left Dan and Company needing at least 811 in the third game to win. So they thought. Down at the end of the alley behind a screen of empty Tiger beer bottles 'H' was leading his team of Ladies to a surprise victory. After posting team totals of 769 in the first, and 808 in the second, 'H' powered the team to victory with a personal best of 280 in the third. He was assisted with a 198 from Jo, 209 from Somsee, and a 226 from Nongruk giving a one game total of 913 and an afternoon total of 2490. This left Dan's team mumbling amongst themselves after beating their apparent rivals by 61 pins in the third but being clipped by 'H' and the Ladies who won with a come from behind victory of two pins.
Congratulations to 'H' the high game winner and Somsee, Jo, and Nongruk for a great win.

Wednesday 15 August
25 bowlers turned out, including two new welcome bowlers from Pittsburg USA John & Lois. We had 4 teams of four and 3 teams of 3.Right from the start the team of Ken, Jo, and Yung led the field with a wopping 693 total for the first game. This gave a team average for the first game of 231, 25 pins ahead of the nearest rivals. In this game Jo posted what turned out to be the high game of the day at 258. They went on to post two games more at 622 and 608 giving a final average for the day at 213.There was a strong challenge from the team of JJ, H, Craig and Dan which just fell short with a team average of 210. Craig with big shoulders took all the blame for the second place finish claiming he miscalculated how many strikes he needed in the final frame. The second highest game was posted by Dan in the first game at 249, but there must have been a little maritial rivalry at work because wife Tom on a different team had a 248 in the first game.
Congraulations to all, see you next week

Wednesday 8 August
As 25 bowlers turned up this week, we tried 5 teams of 5. Think it went pretty good, but takes a little longer.
Welcome back to Ken after his vacation in Canada and Bacca (regular visitor from Aust) managed to get out of bed and bless us with his presence. Shane James (Aust) on his annual holiday to Chiang Mai also had his first game since last Sept and hasn’t lost any of his form or style. We say farewell to Alex who is returning to U.K., hope you enjoyed your time with us.
The visitors, Bacca, Shane & Alex with Gary L and Oi were early leaders after the first game by 8 pins. But in the 2nd game the boys team of Les (228), Craig (272), Erik (207), Garry W (203) and Jim (204) went to a commanding lead of 36 pins. However consistency paid off and the boy’s team crashed in the last round (too many Tigers again) to allow Gary L, Bacca, Oi, Alex and Shane to win the day by just 11 pins.
Craig had best game handicap score cranking up a big 272, with 6 strikes in succession at one stage in his second game.
Best gross for the 3 games was Bacca with 502 pins. He grizzled about his handicap this week, wait until next week.
Les will be away for 22/8 and 29/8 and Gary Lyon will look after the book etc. Thanks Gary.
Catch you next week

Welcome back to ‘H’ who will be with us for 4 weeks before returning to work in Africa, also Bacca is in town, but forgot to come bowling. Another visiting from the U.K. is Jo & Rex’s niece Alex. Welcome to Chiang Mai Alex and we hope you enjoy your stay and we might see you again over the next couple of weeks. We also had a new local in Mogin, we hope you will be playing each Wednesday from now on.
Just the perfect number this week to make up 6 teams of 4.
1st round was very ordinary with all teams failing to make their handicap score of 800. Best were Da, Mogin, Dow and Colin with 791. They were still holding a slender lead of 13 at the end of the 2nd round from Dan, Surachot, Tom and Oi. Then in the last round from out of the blue, a strong performance from Les, Garry W, Rex and ‘H’ saw them come from 23 pins down to win by 39 pins.
Best Performances : Surachot 222 - 210 - 207
Rex 213 - 220 - 252
Highest Score Prize : Rex 252

Vale - Ron Guy 28 July
It is with deep regret and a sad heart that I report the passing of Ronald James Guy at approx 6pm on Saturday 28th July 2007 at age 64 years. His dinner in the microwave he slipped quietly into the night while watching his TV alone. He is being moved from the hospital to the temple 'Dap Pai' today and I will advise of funeral arrangements when known. He will be missed by all.

Wednesday 25 July
Once again we had 22 bowlers which meant 4 teams of 4, and 2 teams of 3, same as the week before.
Yung, J.J. and Ted blasted out of the blocks with all of them playing well above their handicaps. They proved to hard to catch and ended up winning with a team average score of 217. Followed not to far behind by Malcolm, Dow and Surachot on 206. Maybe the triples teams do have an advantage ?
Ted took out the highest score award with 270 in the first game.
Was good to have Craig back again from Taipai. Pim was missing, gone to visit with Phil and Emily in Wales. Next week we hope to have Bacca and ‘H’ back with us again. But Ted and Ram have headed off to Canada for a month.

Wednesday 18 July
This week we had 4 teams of 4, and 2 teams of 3 (21 players). The only new-comer was Scott who made a return to bowling after a break only to find that his handicap was far short of his actual performance. Better luck next time Scott. Jo and Rex returned from Hong Kong in much need of the money after finding Honkers a little expensive for retirees like themselves, if you can believe that ....
Average team individual scores were 190, 191, 198, 200, 205 and winners 207. So the handicaps make things pretty right and results are close no matter what team you are in.
Winners were Dan, Nongruk, Oi and J.J. (Dan plays well with the girls)
Best score was Erik’s 247 but close behind him was Nongruk with 245.
See you by 3.30pm next Wednesday - get with the strength and play with big balls instead of those puny little white golf balls.

Wednesday 11 July
Numbers are down with quite a few people away on short and long trips but 17 turned up and that made four groups of four with Garry sitting this one out and just having a practice bowl on his own while running the show with Les away.
The winning team was Ram, Som See, Dow & Colin (2469) and runners up were Ted, Erik, Nongruk & Gerry (2417). High Scorer was Gary Lyon (261) who bowled extremely well with three games over 200 (723) and not far behind was Nongruk (250) also with three games over 200 (673). Gary reckons its all down to the lousy pair of shoes he bought off Phil since he hired a pair today and is back to his old form. Also worth a mention was Colin who has just returned from Oz and also bowled three games over 200 (670). Well done everyone. Jimmy not to be outdone took Colin on at 10 baht a strike and came away with a smile on his face and an extra 10 baht in his pocket. Good on ya Jimmy.
Same time, same place next week but with a lot returning from small trips it is expected to be a big turnout ...... see ya there.

A FEW MORE BOWLERS OUT OF TOWN THIS WEEK. REX & JO OFF TO HONG KONG FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS,. PIM & WAW IN PHUKET AGAIN AND CRAIG IN TAPAI.
WELCOME BACK TO AMP & NICK AFTER A FEW WEEKS OFF.
BUT, WE STILL MANAGED 5 TEAMS OF 4, WHICH WAS A GOOD NUMBER.
LOOKED ALL OVER AFTER THE 1ST GAME WHEN DA, DAN, ERIK & SURACHOT LED THE FIELD BY 71 PINS. HOWEVER IN THE 2ND GAME NICK BOWLED 7 STRIKES WITH HIS LAST 7 BOWLS TO GET THE TOP NET SCORE OF 258. THIS EFFORT BROUGHT HIS TEAM WITH TED, LES & JIM TO WITHIN 11 PINS OF THE LEADERS. (Nick also got a strike with his 1st bowl of the 3rd game to make it 8 strikes in a row) NICK AND HIS TEAM CONTINUED TO PLAY WELL AND FINISHED THE DAY 80 PINS AHEAD.
IT WAS CERTAINLY NICK’S DAY AND HE ENDED UP WITH 19 STRIKES OVER THE 30 FRAMES. THE GOOD NEWS FOR THE REST OF US IS THAT HIS HANDICAP HAS NOW BEEN REDUCED TO 13.

Bowling Wed 6 June
Well unfortunately the 22 bowlers that turned out today were to be disappointed as after only one game there was a total power blackout. We waited until 6 pm but it didn't look like it would be restored anytime soon so all agreed the competition be called off. The temperature in the alley was increasing at a rapid rate without air conditioning. Monies paid were to be jack potted next week, however some disagreed and therefore to be fair to all, the monies will be for those that paid their next entry fee. Of course everyone considered that they had their best score ever and most certainly would have won, so I have kept the score sheet for Les to peruse on his return.

Wednesday 23 May
Two newcomers boosted our players to 27 this week. Welcome to the new Jim C., and Kim Stogner. Hope you both enjoyed it.
The draw this week seeded 3 of the lowest handicappers Emely, Surachot and Les together with J.J. to give them a very tough task. But, they all played better than handicap to win the day with an individual team average score of 223. Surachot and J.J. had especially good games.
Runners up – no prize – but worthy of a mention were Ken, J.B., Da, and Welshphil with 209. Good stuff !
Ken Taylor had a remarkable first game to score 193 (P.B.for sure) and 268 with handicap. Well done Ken ! Our most senior player, Surachot, certainly hasn’t lost it and bowled 219 off the stick in the last game. Beat that lately anyone ??
So, additional prizes to Ken and Surachot for best net and gross.
Have it from the horses mouth (and his Lady) that Malcolm Tetley is definitely coming next week. We have all been waiting for this exhibition roll up before we start the main event.
See you next week.

Wed 16 May
Twenty five bowlers turned up again at PS Bowl this week. This week we played 3 teams of 3 and 4 teams of 4 and used the average individual team score to determine the winners. The team of Ted Taylor, Jim Catterson, Bob Kimmins and SomSee managed to hang-on and win with an average of 214 from the team of Yung Beece, Nick and JJ with an average of 217. A close game considering the winners were leading by 22 pins in the first round but that lead had been whittled down to just 3 pins in the third and final round. The other 5 team scores ranged between 186 - 202 which indicates that the handicap system is pretty well spot on. Les had the best individual gross score of 517 over the three games, while Oi achieved the highest net score of 262 in the final game to pip Les (253) at the post. Our newest bowler, Nick, looks like being our best. He started 3 weeks ago and was given a handicap of 80, this was reduced to 65 the following week and this 43 week. Next week he will be off 31. Usual time and place next wednesday so be there or be square.......

This Wednesday saw 25 roll up at PS Bowl which resulted in 5 teams of 5. The teams of 5 took a little longer than usual to play the three games, but the format changes each week depending on the number of players.
The team of Surachot, Bob, Waw, Emily and Colin looked unbeatable out of the blocks when they scored 8 strikes and 5 spares after the first 3 frames, but Erik, Nang, SomSee, Ken and Nick were having none of that and finished the first game 120 pins in front. With a good overall performance with all of that team finishing with figures over the average of 200. Erik, Nang, SomSee, Ken & Nick easily won the day with a total score of 3,278.
Garry W, JJ, Jim, Gary L & Ram also ended over the handicap measure with a total score of 3,009 to run second which was well done. Jim earned an honorable mention coming in with a 164 off the bat, which may be a 'PB' for him. Yung's ladies side of Oi, Pim, Da & Amp also lodged a good score of 2971 to come in a very creditable third.
Best performace of the day went to Erik who seems to have long spells between being on the winners dias. This week he bowled 476 over the three games plus handicap gave him a total score of 678. Second game he came in with a 210 off the stick, which we think may have been his first time in the '200 club'. Well done Erik.
Les Harvey runs the bowling, does the handicaps and has now volunteered to assist me by writing up the results/comments each week, so be nice to him and thanks mate. Les says that its on again next wednesday, so if there are any golfers out there who would like to try their arm, you are more than welcome. Names in before 3.45pm. Rumour has it that Malcolm is nearly ready to come in and play an exhibition game for the crowd ...... come on down Malcolm

Wednesday 2nd May
Well the good news is that PS bowl have tidied up their act and for the moment at least have the equipment all working satisfactorily. An added bonus was to have Thun the waiter back serving the beers. Apparently they sacked the manager. Anyway, for the moment, all looks fine and we will undoubltedly remain at PS Bowl for a little longer. This week for the first time saw one team hit the front from the very first game and score the highest ever total score in the club. The team consisted of Pim, Nong, Nang & Phil. Their total game score was 2916 for the three games. And just to top it off Pim had the high gross game score of 299. Other high scores were posted by Phil Williams of 252 and Ram with 238.

Wednesday 25th April
The team of Surachot, Erik, Phil & Colin emerged victorious from the 17 bowlers who turned out for an absolutely terrible day at PS bowl where they currently have staff shortages and the computers were down and the machinery was not much better with the staff having to return the balls regularly. Despite this the best individual scores were recorded by new face Nick with 252 and Erik on 253. Things will have to change or we will change.

Wednesday 18 April
This weeks winning team consisted : Da, Ron, Ken and Jo. Repeat winner from last week Jo is having a good run. Another close comp with only six pins separating the top two teams after three games. The competition was played in relative comfort while the first rain storm for the year pelted down in a howling gale outside. The high scorers for the day were Yung with a 246, Les with a 230 and Ron with a 226.

Wednesday 11 April
The bowling is becoming almost too popular with Les flat out to keep track as the group seems to grow each week. The winners by a huge margin this week were Jo,Yung,Oi & Bob with some terrific individual scores in some of the other groups as well. Ron top scored with a 258 game and Garry, Haydn and Oi were only a few pins behind with 256, 255 and 253 respectively. Haydn had a good run of 9 stikes in ten frames but it was just a pity they came at the end of one game and the start of another.

International Bowling League
International meet at PS Bowl
A group of Chiang Mai’s ten pin bowlers from nine different countries meet at PS Bowl, Sriphum Road every Wednesday, and in last week’s event, 25 competitors turned up to do battle. The format is simply to divide the players who arrive into teams by drawing their names from a hat. Then each player bowls 3 games.
(Back row, left to right) Surachot and Ken, with (front row left to right) Da, Emely and Pim, winners of last week’s friendly ten pin bowling at PS Bowl.
A highly efficient handicap system enables any bowler to achieve a score of around 200 per game, and it’s often the odd pin that makes the difference between winning and losing the weekly prize.
With an indivisible number of contestants last Wednesday, 5 teams of four and 1 of five started the tournament, and so the calculator went into overdrive to find the eventual winners, who were Pim, Ken, Surachot, Emely and Da.
It was worth noting that Surachot is not only one of the oldest players at 73 years, but he also has the lowest handicap - often shooting a straight 200 plus.
The atmosphere in the group is competitive, but remarkably friendly, with fun and meeting people high on the agenda. It was good to see an equal number of Thais and foreigners enjoying themselves together.
For anyone interested in chancing their arm, just turn up at PS Bowl any Wednesday at 3.30 p.m. Make yourself known to Les Harvey and he will sort out who plays in which team.
